GRIMALDI STORE LECCE Vico dei Fieschi, 16 - 73100 Palazzina Ex Serafini Bourgeois elegance in the heart of Lecce In the heart of Lecce, a few steps from Piazza Mazzini, stands the Palazzina ex Serafini, a refined testament to the architectural elegance that marked the birth of the modern city. Built in 1936 from a project by engineer Tommaso Martello for Ada Serafini, it represents one of the most significant examples of bourgeois residence of early 20th-century Salento. The building, with balanced and harmonious lines, rises over two above-ground floors and a basement, with four independent dwellings and an inner courtyard-garden that completes the refined composition of the time. The facades in Lecce stone and carparo, treated with warm ochre and yellow tones, reveal a compositional search of great balance: carved cornices, floral friezes, wooden doors and wrought-iron balconies tell of the meeting between artisanal tradition and decorative taste. At the rear, the arched portico and the continuous balcony create a play of solids and voids of extraordinary elegance, projecting the gardens light into the interiors. Inside, the Palazzina preserves original cementine mosaics, Liberty decorative paintings, period doors and fixtures, and a monumental reinforced concrete staircase with a wooden handrail. Every detail speaks of an era in which living was an expression of style and measure. Today, the Palazzina ex Serafini represents a rare example of early 20th-century residential architecture that remains largely intact, where eclecticism, classical taste and modern sensibility coexist. A property of high historical and cultural value, protected under article 10 of the Cultural Heritage Code, and an authentic testimony of Lecces elegant, cultured and luminous thirties. A careful conservation restoration would restore the Palazzina ex Serafini to full architectural and decorative legibility, enhancing its historical identity without compromising functionality. The intervention could include: restoration of stone claddings and original decorations conversion of interior spaces for residential or representative use upgrading systems and structures in keeping with original materials and techniques. After restoration, the building could configure as a prestigious residence, an institutional or cultural venue, or an elite hospitality facility, capable of demonstrating continuity between historical memory and innovation.
